Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro to Reportedly Arrive With Snapdragon 660 SoC in Two Variants

The Snapdragon 660 chipset is faster than the one powering the Redmi Note 5 Pro, but it is not new, and hence, remains affordable

The Xiaomi Redmi 6 series phones are close to launch in India, and there is much hype around the Redmi Note 6 Pro. The Redmi Note 5 Pro has been a major success for Xiaomi, and we expect that the successor will do a good job just as well. The USP of the Redmi Note 5 Pro was its value for money, and it is obvious that the Redmi Note 6 Pro will follow the same track.
However, not enough is known about the phone to come, so the handset is still in its initial rumoured stage, but today, we have learnt that the new Redmi Note 6 Pro will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset.

Redmi Note 6 Pro: New Chipset

The Redmi Note 6 Pro is reportedly powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor, if a leak on the Chinese micro-blogging platform Weibo is to be believed. The leak post was soon pulled down, but users noted that the leak mentioned two variants of the Redmi Note 6 Pro: 3GB RAM with 32GB storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 also is powered by a Snapdragon 660 SoC, so it may not be just speculation that the Redmi Note 6 Pro will be powered by the same processor. After all, the processor is now two years old, and Qualcomm is believed to have lowered the prices of the chipset, so that it trickles down to more affordable smartphones now.
For perspective, you may recall that the Redmi Note 5 Pro was powered by a slower Snapdragon 636 SoC. That processor shared the Kyro 260 architecture with Snapdragon 660, but it was clocked at speeds of up to 1.8GHz, while the Snapdragon 660 chipset gets a frequency of 2.2GHz for four of its cores and 1.8GHz for the rest four. The graphics processor with the Snapdragon 636 was Adreno 509 while the Snapdragon 660 is paired to a faster Adreno 512 GPU.

Redmi Note 6 Pro: Certification

The Redmi Note 6 Pro may or may not be launched alongside the Redmi 6 series smartphones in the first week of September, but we can assure you that the Redmi Note 6 Pro is close to launch too. The handset was spotted, as was the Redmi Note 6, on the websites of three separate certification agencies, from three different countries.
The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), the American Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and the National Communications Commission of Taiwan (NCC) have all certified the Redmi Note 6 and Redmi Note 6 Pro, so we can expect the two handsets to arrive sometime soon.
On September 5, Xiaomi will launch the Redmi 6, Redmi 6A, and Redmi 6 Pro in India.

Redmi Note 6 Pro: Leaked Specifications, Price in India

Two days ago the noted tipster Roland Quandt tweeted that the Redmi Note 6 Pro was on its way, in 3GB and 4GB RAM models, and at price tags of Euro 200 and 250. He said that Gold, Blue and Black were confirmed colour variants for the handset, but more were likely.
Also, the price of Chinese smartphones is usually lower in India than in European markets. Seen in Indian Rupees, the European launch pricing would be Rs 16,500 for the 3GB RAM + 32GB variant, and Rs 20,500 for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant. For comparison, look at the pricing of the Redmi Note 5 Pro.
It comes in at Rs 14,999 for the standard 4GB RAM + 64GB RAM option, and at Rs 16,999 for the larger 6GB RAM + 64GB storage model. Since it is a successor, we can expect the Redmi Note 6 Pro to cost not much more than the model it replaces. Also, Xiaomi will most likely launch a 6GB RAM option for the Redmi Note 6 Pro in India, as the same for the Redmi Note 5 Pro is quite popular.
While too many specifications are not known, there have been leaks pointing towards a 5.45-inch display for the Redmi Note 6 Pro, with Full HD+ resolution and a small notch, like the one we saw on the Poco F1.
Since the MIUI 10 Global Stable is yet to roll out, the Redmi Note 6 Pro could be among the first phones to ship with that software, which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo. We know that Xiaomi is working on Android 9 Pie-based software updates for its phones already, so we can expect the Redmi Note 6 Pro to receive an OTA update not too long after it’s launched.
